Day 1 |
We will pick you up at Costa Rica's Juan Santamaria International Airport
and we will stay in, a comfortable, three-star hotel Hemingway
Inn, located in the heart of San Jose |
Day 2 |
Next morning we will drive towards the Pacific, passing
rain forest, hiking down to a huge waterfall (you might have a chance to take a swim in the lake below ) and by
midday we will reach the active Arenal volcano.
If the day is clear, we will observe this volcano's impressive eruptions.
Right at the volcano we will enter the hot springs Tabacon bathing in this fantastic tropical garden. Our trip continues with
a drive through the rainforest around lake Arenal via Tilaran, Canas,
crossing the Tempisque river by ferry and finally reaching the beach
and village of Samara. We will lodge in the
suites of the small, four-star Aparthotel Mirador de Samara, with its breathtaking view. |
Day 3 |
After breakfast we will drive
about an hour to the port of Puerto Humo, situated in the Palo Verde
National Park. This tiny village lies on the banks of the Tempisque river, with its typical mangrove swamp ecosystem providing the perfect
conditions for different types of migratory water birds. During our
three-hour boat trip, we will not only birdwatch, but will also find
crocodiles, huge iguanas, howler monkeys and whiteface monkeys. Our
next stop is the traditional pottery-making village of Guatil, where
we can watch the potters at work and purchase original Indian pottery.
On our way back, we may stop for shopping in the typical Costa Rican
town of Nicoya. |
Day 4 |
Samara and its surrounding areas offer the perfect setting for horseback tours. You will be accompanied by a guide on this five-hour tour through
little-known jungle trails and deserted beaches, with plenty of time
to take a swim. |
Day 5 |
We have to get up early
in the morning to meet the dolphins.
Coffee and cookies will be served on the boat. For
about four hours, we will enjoy the expansive ocean,
looking for jumping dolphins, whales, floating turtles
and gliding manta rays. The boat is equipped with
fishing utilities. |
Day 6 |
Today is free for relaxing
at the hotel and on the beach. |
Day 7 |
You will be taken back to the airport
for the trip home. You also have the option of spending additional days
at hotel Mirador. |

|
NOTE |
| Because
of the unpredictability of nature, the time scale of some tours may be altered. In some
cases, we may even substitute one tour for another; for example, if there is a good chance
to see turtles laying eggs at the nearby Ostional beach, we may add this tour charging a
little extracost. Of course, these changes also depend on your preferences. |
