After breakfast we will drive to the small village of Puerto Humo (about 1.5 hours). The town is located on the banks of the Tempisque river, where enormous mangroves have grown up over many years. During our three-hour boat trip, we can see the nests of Central American water birds. We will pass "Bird Island" and catch sight of birds such as cormorants, ibis, storks, spoonbills, different types of herons and many more.

In addition to birds, we will see crocodiles (up to 5 meters long), lizards (3 meters), Raccoons, Congo and Whitefaced Monkeys. After the boat trip we will have lunch, then continue on to the village of Guaitil, where a local business produces pottery using traditional techniques and authentic materials just as used by the ancient peoples of the region. Nearly every house has its own kiln and sells handmade ceramics.

On our way back, we may stop in Nicoya, where Costa Rica's oldest church is located.
